Scenario II The Boston Massacre

Scenario II (The Boston Massacre)

Dr. Enki Madison, May 11, 1981

The last thing Dr. Madison remembers was reading the translated pages from Rod’s basement in his New York apartment with Cocho, a nurse enters the room . . .

“Where am I?”

“Dr. Madison” the nurse responds gently and familiarly, “you’re in Boston State Hospital of course.”

“Boston?” [he mumbles to himself in shock].  He searches his mind . . . his last clear memory was of reading The Pages from Rod’s Basement and becoming gripped with horror, existential dread.  Madison attempts to focus . . . concentrate . . . he dredges up a recollection of himself running through the streets somewhere at night, screaming, screaming like mad.

He continues concentrating . . . there might have been a bus ride.  A horrible feeling hits him, where’s Cocho?  Was Cocho with him on the bus?  A recollection of being on the bus and shouting at someone and, oh God, drinking again and, it was Absinthe.  He didn’t have his pants on at one point . . . oh god, how humiliating but, it’s unclear in his mind how that came to be.

A Bus Ride with Madison

The nurse gently interrupts his searching thoughts “Are you with us doctor?  You remember us, don’t you?  You remember me?”  He ought to, the young nurse was striking enough.

Madison responds slowly, his thoughts adrift “No, I’m sorry . . . what’s the date?”

“It’s May 11th doctor.”

“Uh huh, I didn’t miss the game” [Madison mutters to himself] then recalls with an urgency bordering on panic “Where’s my monkey??”

“Yes, of course, your monkey, you know, you owe a lot to that monkey, it was your monkey that somehow persuaded that bus driver to make an emergency call for medical treatment rather than the authorities.  You see, I don’t want to shock you doctor if you don’t recall but, you made a lewd act in public, on the bus, and there were children, you really don’t remember?”

“No . . . how lewd?”

Dr. Madison - - “How lewd?”

“Well, they said you were drinking, and you removed your pants and began shouting at everybody, you told them they must right their ways and stop indulging in horrible acts or the devil was going to come for them, children were crying doctor.”

Hartwood Takes The Pamphlet

“In terms of eldritch monsters, [chuckling a little] nothing in the non-fiction section, sorry Hartwood.”

“What about the fiction section?”  Hartwood responding dead serious.

“Ah. . . ” Jason caught off guard by Hartwood’s somber tone on this turn of question, “well, I’d have to go back and look, I didn’t grab any (I stuck to the non-fiction) but in terms of CERN and black cables. . .” Jason here passing Hartwood what looks like a small stack of pamphlets and continuing, “we have a pamphlet archive, when you mentioned it to me, it struck my memory that I saw these, I can’t verify any kind of authenticity to these, pamphlets like this come at all levels of quality, we maintain a collection purely for posterity, they range from extreme political groups to wild lunatic fringe conspiracy theories, but, one here in particular, discusses a research center in Switzerland, that, the pamphlet claims, is either trying to summon the devil or, open up a black hole, or both. . . it does mention something about black cables.”

“Can I have that pamphlet?”  Hartwood’s curiosity now piqued.

“Sure.”

Hartwood slides the pamphlet into a back pocket.  “Thanks.”
